This is a relatively short trip mainly along the south side of Fleet St but with a short excursion north of the street to a new Fullers pub which is worth a visit for the decoration alone. We start at the the end of the Strand by St Clement Danes Church.

1. Edinburgh Tavern, 1 Milford Lane [18:15] {RBIWL 4-34}
Theakstons best, Youngers IPA, Masham Ale

Small single bar S&N pub, wooden floors, fairly busy on visit. There is said to be an upstairs lounge bar but I have'nt seen it.

Back onto the Strand and across the street and just past Temple Bar, before Chancery Lane.

2. The Old Bank, 194 Fleet St [19:00]
Fullers Pride, ESB, MR Harry, Chiswick

Large ornate bar, note high ceiling with large chandeliers. Balcony area with extra seating overlooking main bar area. Grand entrance up a flight of stairs. Full of suits (some with people in them). Large island bar with marble effect bar surface. They seem to light a gas torch outside the pub some nights.

Back over the road and backtrack to Devereux Ct.

3. Devereux, 20 Devereux Court [19:30] {RBIWL 4-32}
Theakstons Best, Courage Directors, Wadworths 6X

Single bar pub but with a fairly large drinking area to one side. Nicely situated down an alley off the Strand. There appear to be a fair amount of legal connontations here.

At the end of the alley is a gate into Inner Temple, through this, past Mid Temple Hall, along Crown Office Row, across Kings Bench Walk to Tudor St.

4. Witness Box, 36 Tudor St [20:00] {ELCB B2/60}
Courage Directors, Theakstons Best & XB

Two bar pub but they only had real ale in the downstairs bar. There was a strong smell of food about the place but I don't know if they do any in the evening.

5. White Swan, 28/30 Tudor St [20:30] {ELCB B2/58}
Courage Directors, Theakstons Best & XB

Fairly large pub, there is an upstairs bar but it doesn't seem to be used in the evening. Not too busy on our visit and plenty of seating. Apparently there is an old water pump here which was once used to extract well water when this was the White Swan Hotel, but I failed to see this.

Left onto Whitefriars St

6. Harrow, 22 Whitefriars St [21:00] {ELCB B2/24}
Courage Directors, Fullers Pride

Three bars but all fairly small. Friendly, we were offered free sandwiches on our visit but I think that these were the remains of a Xmas party. There was a interesting leaflet on the pub history on the bar but I lost it.

Through Hanging Sword Alley, Salisbury Sq, onto St Brides and to the back entrance of

7. Old Bell, 95 Fleet St [21:30] {ELCB B2/33}
Tetleys, Greene King IPA, Marstons Pedigree

A Nicholsons Inn but still an interesting and original? interior. The wooden floor seems to slope to my mind. Single bar but there is a seperate drinking area by the front door.

Either back onto Fleet St (through front door) or down Bride lane onto New Bridge St and so to Blackfriars.
