Hassrale Trips: Hammersmith to Ravenscourt Park

Date: Friday 22nd January 1988

Our trip begins in downtown Hammersmith, between the two exits to the District and Piccadilly lines tube station. As the latter is on a circular island you cannot miss pub 1 whichever way you turn on leaving the station. You will need more dexterity if you come by Metropolitan line as this uses a seperate station across the road (please use the subway!). Plenty of buses stop close by (Butterwick bus station) e.g 9, 27, 33, 73, 220 and 267. It is best to check latest London Buses map for full details.

1. Brittania - Talgarth Road [18:20]

Beers: Fullers London Pride, ESB

What more can one say about this pub, except that it is opposite Hammersmith Odeon? Unexceptional pub dominated by famous flyover and the busy Broadway traffic. Taped music should appeal to the under 40 age group (those wanting more adventurous music should walk round the corner to the Clarendon - definintely not on this trip!).

2. The Builders - 81 King Street (corner of Angel Walk) [19:10]

Beers: Youngs Bitter, Special

Plush public and saloon bars, both comfortable. Darts. Possibly academic note: outside drinking area with tables.

3. Pennyfarthing - 133 King Street [19:45]

Beers: Bass, Charrington IPA

Pleasant, modern surroundings. Could it be the Prisoner's pennyfarthing hanging on the wall - a reference to the sixties cult TV series? Has a jukebox and there should be an extensive range of hot and cold food.

4. Salutation - 154 King Street [20:35]

Beers: Fullers London Pride, ESB

Recently refurbished pub with seperate games area, music, conservatory and garden. Well decorated.

5. Princess Alexandra - 1 Perrers Road [21:35]

Beers: Coombe's, Websters, Ruddles County

Friendly neighborhood pub in a quiet street which has found favour with the Yuppies (now thought to be Puppies). Semi circular bar with 2 drinking areas. Musak. Good range of novelle cuisine from 8pm, e.g egg and chips; sorry no Abbot!

6. Thatched House - 115 Dalling Road

Beers: Youngs Bitter, Special

To round off the evening a classic Youngs house; everything a pub should be; excellent ambience, say no more!

Ravenscourt Park tube is a short walk away; also several bus routes.
