OXFORD CIRCUS - HASSRALE

The trip starts from Oxford Circus tube station. Come out of the tube station via the Regent St South/Oxford St East exit and walk south down Regent Street heading towards Piccadilly. When you reach Great Marlborough Street turn left then take an immediate right down Kingly Street. A little way down is the first bar.

1. Clachan

A Nicholson pub. Centre Island bar, mahogany bar fittings and divisions, engraved glass and mirrors. 'Clachan is Gaelic for stone.

Come out of the pub and walk down Great Marlborough Place (not marked on the map). Turn left at the end and a little way up on the right you will see the next......


2. Dog and Trumpet

A large pub dating from 1886 originally called the Marlborough Head, but changed to the above name in 1974.

Turn right down Great Marlborough Street and cross the road. The next pub is at the end of Great Marlborough Street.

The pub name dates back to 1739.

Exit the pub and walk up Poland Street until you reach Oxford Street. Turn left and cross the road. When you reach Great Portland Street turn right and a little way up on the left hand part of the street you should see the next pub...

Samuel Smith Old Brewery bitter, Museum Ale

Lots of woodwork and a decorative tiled floor. The pub dates from 1897.

On coming out continue to walk up Great Marlborough Street until you reach the next pub....
5. George                Great Portland Street        {10}                        (21:30)
Greene King IPA, Abbot, Black Baron, Rayment Special

This pub has retained much of its original Edwardian glass and woodwork. Popular with BBC staff and is mentioned on Loose Ends nearly every week.


Leave the pub and turn right down Mortimer Street until you reach Regent Street. Cross Regent Street and continue down Cavendish Place until you reach Cavendish Square. Turn left as soon as you reach the square and walk until you meet the next left turn. In front of you is the next pub.....


6. Phoenix                Margaret Street        {1-38}                                (22:15)
Pedigree, Burton, Young's bitter, Tetley

Normally crowded pub attached to a large office block.



Leave the pub and continue to walk up Margaret Street until you reach Regent Street where you turn right and Oxford Circus Station is in front of you.
