This is our second Soho trip and we start at pub 2 on the previous visit as it is relatively easy to find.

Coming east from Piccadilly Circus along Shaftesbury avenue you turn left up Wardour St and on your left you find :-

1. Rat and Parrot - 77 Wardour St {55}
Directors, Theakstons best & XB

Large 250ml glasses of wine and chilled vodka. Heavy dance and funk music but not overwhelming. Noted newspapers available for reading, table service by the bar staff. Recent refurbishment, previously the Duke of Wellington.

Continue on up Wardour St and turn left into Brewer St

2. Duke of Argyll - 37 Brewer St {54}
Directors, Theakstons best & best

Single bar pub, flavoured vodkas again. Seating around the periphery, youngish set of custmers, red and brown decor fairly old.

Keep on down Brewer St and turn left down Great Windmill St

3 Red Lion - 20 Great Windmill St {74}
Fullers Pride, Bass, Worthington

Single bar pub, split level lower part carpeted higher part wooden floor. Mixed clientele, older music.

Cross over Great Windmill St and slightly further down

4. Lyric Tavern - 37 Great Windmill St {68}
Courage Best & Directors

Single bar, crowded tourist style pub, gas fire. Bow fronted and tiled exterior.

Back over the street and down to the end of Archer St and turn left into Rupert St

5. White Horse - 45 Rupert St {85}

Single bar, island bar, lots of televisions showing golf. Ind Coope and Double Diamond windows.

Down Winnet St, left and right onto Old Compton St then right onto Dean St and left into Romily St

6. Spice Of Life - 38 Romily St {79}
McMullen AK, Country bitter, Gladstone

Large busy pub full of youngsters, no music, bar downstairs much quieter. Looks like it has been extensively refurbished recently.

To the end of the street and out onto Charing X rd and left towards Tottenham Ct Rd Station.

7. Moon under Water - Charing X Rd
Fullers London Pride, Courage Directors, Scotch bitter, guest beers.

Large recent (Jan 97) conversion from the former Marquee club. Modern striking interior very high ceiling, balcony area with seats and a raised dais at the far end (maybe the former stage?). There is a second bar at the far end but I didn't get as far as this on our visit. Toilets upstairs.
